WELL.....we choked

Brock and i had been gone for the past week and the caitlin & scott got married the day after brock got home and finally monday rolled around graces 14 month old mark!!! March 19, 2012 one day i will never forget. but in the same sense one that is so so blurry to me. The story starts like this I woke up and decided that my house had gotten out of control and run over with laundry and so i strapped on my rubber gloves and dressed in my normal cleaning attire---(my robe) and got to work starting on graces room. grace was running around like she usually does and then next thing i hear is something spilling in the kitchen. so i run out there and she has a bag of pinto beans and spilled them all over. (this is where it gets blurry) i am cleaning them up and i wasn't looking at grace but i hear her choke and dry heaving so i look at her and she is turning blue and she is trying to cough so i turn her over and immediately start doing back thrusts nothing is working so i just keep doing them but for some reason i know i won't be able to get it out so i throw on my slippers and a sweatshirt and run out the door. I DONT KNOW IF I WOULD DO THE FOLLOWING AGAIN. I jumped in my car turned my hazards on and laid grace across my lap she is breathing but still coughing so i keep pounding on her and honking and just make the quick 4 minute drive to st marks. run in the ER and we go from there. they do X-rays and I immediately ask for the NICU team to come. THANK HEAVENS FOR MY COWORKERS they are amazing. As i was holding her they tried everything that they could and we knew we needed to transfer to primary children's.  so we decided to intubate her so that we wouldn't have any surprises during the transfer.  she got a dose of  versed and all of a sudden she was as sweet as could be when previously she had been fighting everybody and everything. she looked right at me and said HI we all laughed and she had googley eyes for a little bit and then she got knocked out. I got to ride in the ambulance with her to Primary's where they took us straight to the PICU (thanks Dr Lyn Peterson for arranging that) where they quickly took her off to the OR to scope her and just happened to get out a PINTO BEAN !!!

When we got to finally go back and see her our wonderful nurse was holding her and she was bawling her poor little eyes out with a hoarse voice. as soon as she saw us she just wanted to be held by her mom and not let go. she was so tired.

Right when we got back to see her.. you can hear how hoarse her voice is.
after she took a nap and let the meds wear off a little she was ready to play

As soon as we got moved up to the floor we could hardly keep her contained

her favorite thing was that she got as many bottles as she wanted and ate jello

I never in a million years thought that i would have to see my daughter choke to the point where she would have to be intubated-transferred-bronched. This was not my favorite day, it is another reminder to us of how fragile life is and how quickly things can change. I love this little girl more than anything. she is so sweet to me and so so smart. you can see in the videos her cute little personality. the day that we got to leave she walked out of the room and touched everything on her way out (anybody that has spent anytime in a hospital knows ITS DISGUSTING) so when we got home she got a quick bath. But she still ended up with a cough. we aren't sure if it is from the hospital or the procedure so we are keeping our distance for a while !!!!  GRACE we love you so so so so much!!! and are so glad that you are ok!!! please don't ever choke again.

this little girl loves to dance and her new "thing" is to pick things up with her mouth. I wasn't really impressed with this trick when it was off a hospital toy !!!!
